Meh. There has been talk of the coming flash hard drives for a while. They will certainly usurp magnetic drives in the consumer space IF the capacity can catch up (you can get a 1TB drive from a number of manufacturers now).

There will, however, always be spaces where a traditional magnetic drive is preferred. Flash memory has a limited number of writes (around 100,000, if I recall correctly) per bit. In places like database servers or high end workstations (anywhere where there are a lot of writes) this may limit the effective life of a flash drive. That said, it will be nice to have drives with no moving parts (no noise) and where the failure time is predictable.
